Poster of Artworks for Beijing Dangdai Art Fair 2025|Li Yiwen :Entanglement
Beijing Dangdai Art Fair 2025 will release a series of posters centered on the works exhibited at the fair. These works not only offer possible interpretations and responses to the theme “CONCAVE & CONVEX”, but also serve as highlights previews of important works and participating galleries at the fair. The poster shared this time is from the Mocube, a new work by Li Yiwen.
In Li Yiwen’s paintings, experiences from the past and the present permeate each other, and its continuous accumulation becomes the source of inspiration and the foundation of Li’s expression. Li often adopts postmodern methodology – blending illogical, fictional, displaced and intuitive elements into his work by filtering, selecting and elevating the image. The objects in his works are placed in surreal settings, their chaotic dislocation detaching them from reality.
Li Yiwen’s painting series of spiral staircases originated from photos of a villa construction site designed by a friend. He saw the winding staircase as a struggling, upward-reaching life form, standing defiantly amidst the chaotic surroundings; and he was instantly struck by a poignant emotion. In Entanglement, two half-finished spiral staircases welded from steel plates are as mesmerizing as intertwined DNA double helices. In the meantime, they also resemble the imagery of a pair of dancers swaying in an unfinished architectural space, evoking endless imagination. The artist depicts a scene that traverses memories, the present and the future, and eventually reflects back onto the reality of our lives.
