Poster of Artworks for Beijing Dangdai Art Fair 2025|Tadaaki Kuwayama:TK7929-3/4-68

Beijing Dangdai Art Fair 2025 will release a series of posters centered on the works exhibited at the fair. These works not only offer possible interpretations and responses to the theme “CONCAVE & CONVEX”, but also serve as highlights previews of important works and participating galleries at the fair. The poster shared this time is from the Whitestone Gallery, a Minimalist work by Tadaaki Kuwayama

Japanese minimalist Tadaaki Kuwayama devoted his life to pursuing the purity of color and form, deliberately reducing the metaphorical and historical references in his artistry. Defying aesthetic conventions, Kuwayama strived for an unwavering pursuit of “nothingness”, while delivering an inherent spiritual experience between the natural and the transcendent.

During the 1960s, Kuwayama was committed to creating square and monochromatic works divided by vertical and horizontal metal strips. In TK7929-3/4/68, the artist applied multiple layers of mixed pigments to the canvas, achieving a uniform depth of color. The overall composition was then segmented into distinct zones by thin aluminum strips, creating a visual effect that blends artificial hues with industrial elements. From a distance, the surface of the work seems to emanate an enigmatic, misty aura. As viewers walk close, they would perceive the subtle sheen of the ambient light reflecting off the glossy finish achieved by combining acrylic paints with Japanese mineral pigments. In the decades that followed, Kuwayama expanded his artistic materials to include resin, polyester film and titanium, while remained steadfast in his exploration of pure tones and forms.
